After two intense styled shoots in February 2023 and March 2024, both with a lot of moving pieces I wanted my next styled shoot to be simple but really pack a punch. I wanted to highlight more diversity and create opportunities for photographers to work with unique styles and couples outside of the norm. That is how Boho Rodeo was born – I had a vision of a powerful lesbian couple paired with the western cowgirl vibe. Once again I worked with the most amazing vendors to bring this dream to reality, these vendors are highlighted here in this blog.
As I was chatting with a fellow photographer, Megan Johnson Photography, I briefly mentioned my idea for a boho rodeo styled shoot and wanting to possibly figure out how to get a horse on site. Then, the most amazing thing happened, Megan informed me that she just happened to own a horse and boarded her at an amazing stable. With that information everything clicked and we set everything up with Bair Hill Stable to host our styled shoot there.
To me, the florals are always such a crucial piece to making the whole concept come together, and for such a specific vision, I needed a florist who understood it and could find mutual benefit in highlighting work from this style of shoot. That is when some googling and scouring bride boards lead me to Wild Botanical Design. Marah’s website and previous work immediately spoke to me and we knew it was going to be a perfect fit. Her choice of a mixture of dry and live flowers perfectly captured the boho, late august, western vibe.
Because I wanted to keep this styled shoot so simple I kept it at just a few photographers with the models, a cake handmade by Megan and some backdrops for the photographers to work with. I really wanted Megan’s horse Shy to be the main star of the show. And star of the show she was!
The final piece of our puzzle was our models, as I mentioned before I wanted to showcase two women in love in a unique way, and yet again, the universe sent a sign that we are doing the right thing! Megan had previously worked with an amazing couple on their wedding day – Taylor and Erica. Not only were they perfect for the roles, they had a very similar boho style for their wedding day and their dress and jumpsuit were perfect for the occasion. Hair and makeup stunningly and precisely executed by MaddNik Bridal pulled everything together.
Please see some images captured by me during this fabulous shoot below, and find more on instagram @PittsburghStyledShoots captured by other amazing attending photographers! And yes, you see that right, we had a RAINBOW come out during our shoot – so magical!
Another styled shoot will be announced soon, keep your eye on socials for that announcement!
